“I am very proud and honored to be a part of this service. My family has grown to include many of the first responders of Austin County (EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement) and I would not have it any other way.”

Tammy Wendel grew up in Angleton, Texas and moved to Austin County in October of 1992 with her husband and daughters. Starting in 1993, Tammy drove a school bus for Bellville ISD . In 1994, she saw an ad in the newspaper for an EMT class and decided to take the class. After completing the class, she started volunteering for Austin County EMS, primarily in the Industry area.
Tammy became a paid member of Austin County EMS in 1995. She advanced her career to AEMT in 1996. After getting to know the many people in EMS, fire, and law enforcement, Tammy decided to again change hats and in 1998 went to work for the Austin County Sheriff’s Office dispatching. Missing EMS, Tammy decided to make the move one more time. This time Tammy joined the administrative side of the EMS service as Department Coordinator in 2005, and she has been with the department ever since. She has seen the department’s growing pains and achievements. She worked under the previous Chief, Ron Dille, and now under Chief Walter Morrow. Over the many years here, she has seen some of the children that she drove on the bus become some of the Medics for Austin County. |
